As a U.S. border state, California must enlist the forces of the U.S. Border Patrol to ensure that all entries into the country are legal. To do so, they use manpower, technology, and a fleet of vehicles.
Unfortunately, this service doesn’t come without accidents. Recently, in Chula Vista, California, a woman was fatally injured when her Toyota RAV4 collided with a U.S. Border Patrol truck.
A report from KFMB-TV detailed the crash, which occurred at the intersection of Olympic Parkway and Brandywine Avenue a about 9:15 p.m. on a Tuesday.
Witnesses say the driver of the Toyota ran a red light. The truck accident is currently under investigation.
The woman was pulled from the wreckage and taken to a nearby hospital, according to police. She died soon after.
The Border Patrol agent was taken to a hospital as well, sustaining only minor injuries.
Traffic on Olympic Parkway was temporarily diverted, but the roadways were clear by the next morning.
Car accident and truck accidents like this one in California are so devastating to hear about. Whether the driver of the Toyota was at fault or not, the loss of a life reminds us how dangerous crashes can be.
