Safest 2013 Car Models

Safest 2013 Cars | Car Accident Attorney | Drake Law FirmAs the end of 2013 approaches, many car manufacturers are already rolling out their 2014 models. For those looking to find the best deal, this means that many new 2013 cars will be available at a discount, with dealerships hoping to clear out the old to make room for the new.

As a car accident attorney in Sherman Oaks, California, I am often asked what the safest car on the market is (for a reasonable price, of course).

In order to answer that question, I recently found an article from Forbes that details the safest 2013 cars for the money. Here are the thirteen safest (yet relatively affordable) cars of 2013:

  • Acura TL: The midsize, entry-level luxury sedan earned top marks in all five crash tests of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
  • Chrysler 200: The IIHS awards only apply to the 200 four-door models, which earned “good” scores in the moderate-overlap frontal, side, rear, and roof-crush crash tests as well as an “acceptable” mark in the newly introduced small-overlap frontal crash test.
  • Dodge Avenger: The Avenger, Dodge’s mechanical equivalent to the Chrysler 200, also earned “good” scores in moderate-overlap frontal, side, rear, and roof-crush crash tests as well as an “acceptable” mark in the small-overlap frontal crash test.
  • Ford Fusion: Completely redesigned for 2013, the midsize Ford Fusion sedan earned “good” scores in the IIHS moderate-overlap frontal, side, rear, and roof-crush crash tests and an “acceptable” mark in the small-overlap frontal crash test.
  • Honda Accord Sedan: The Accord received top marks in all five IIHS crash tests for 2013.
  • Honda Accord Coupe: The coupe version of the Accord also earned top scores in all IIHS crash tests.
  • Kia Optima: The stylish Optima midsize sedan earned “good” ratings in IIHS moderate-overlap frontal, side, rear, and roof-crush test. It also earned an “acceptable” mark in its small-overlap frontal crash test.
  • Nissan Altima Sedan: The four-door version of Nissan’s midsize Altima earned “good” marks in the moderate-overlap frontal, side, rear, and roof-crash test as well as an “acceptable” rating in the small-overlap frontal.
  • Subaru Legacy: The Legacy scored “good” in the IIHS moderate-overlap frontal, side, rear, and roof-crush crash test. It also scored “acceptable” in the small-overlap frontal crash test.
  • Subaru Outback: The station wagon earned “good” marks in the moderate-overlap frontal, side, rear, and roof-crush crash tests conducted by the IIHS as well as “acceptable” for the new small overlap frontal crash.
  • Suzuki Kizashi: Though not as popular as other vehicles on the list, the Kizashi still earned “good” marks in the IIHS moderate- and small-overlap frontal crash tests and in its side and rear crash tests. It received an acceptable score for roof-crush protection.
  • Volkswagen Passat: The Passat scored “good” in the IIHS moderate-overlap frontal, side, rear, and roof-crush crash tests. It also received an “acceptable” mark in its small-overlap frontal crash test.
  • Volvo S60: The S60 was one of the few cars to receive top marks in all five IIHS crash tests for 2013.
