Authorities sought the public’s help Friday to find the hit-and-run motorist responsible for fatally injuring a man who was crossing a street in Long Beach.
Officers were sent to Pacific Coast Highway and Temple Avenue about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
“Upon arrival, officers located a male adult pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene of the collision,” police said.
Paramedics took the man to a hospital, where he died. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.
“The preliminary investigation revealed a Chevrolet was traveling westbound (on) Pacific Coast Highway when it struck the pedestrian,” police said in a statement. “The pedestrian was crossing Pacific Coast Highway in a southeastern direction outside of any crosswalk west of Temple Avenue.”
The vehicle is believed to be a black Chevrolet SUV, police said.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call detectives at 562-570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Tipsters may also use the website www.LACrimeStoppers.com.
