FRESNO, Calif. —A 22-year-old woman was killed and four others hurt in a crash in Fresno County on Thursday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said. Everyone in the car was from Davis.
The crash happened at 3:30 p.m. when a 20-year-old driver lost control of a Mercedes GLV 300 and veered into a dirt shoulder on San Benito Avenue, CHP said.
The car overturned and ended up in a dirt field. The 22-year-old woman, one of the passengers, was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the car. She was not believed to be wearing a seat belt.
The extent of the injuries to the driver and other passengers was not disclosed.
While an investigation is ongoing, CHP believes that speed and wet roadways are factors in the crash. Alcohol or drugs is not believed to be a factor.
