Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in SF's Tenderloin neighborhood

December 6th, 2023

A driver fatally struck a pedestrian in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood early Wednesday morning, officials said.

Officers from the San Francisco Police Department arrived at the area of Polk and Ellis streets around 1:46 a.m., where they found a male pedestrian with injuries, Gonee Sepulveda, a spokesperson for the department, told SFGATE in a statement.

Medics attempted life-saving efforts on the man but he died at the scene, Sepulveda said.

SFPD said the collision was a hit-and-run, as the driver fled from the scene.

The San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not released the pedestrian’s name.

The crash is still an active investigation and anyone with information is urged to call SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text the tip line at TIP411.
